Old Navy, reconstructed.

In my sewing room I have 3 large baskets that are stuffed with stained, ripped, ill-fitting or otherwise maligned garments that I am convinced I could salvage or repurpose if given enough time.   Since the girls were outside for ages on a playdate, I decided to put that to the test.  Kendall has a cheap, gauzy top from Old Navy that was stained with yellow paint ages ago.  Apparently OxyClean doesn't get everything out.  Of course, the largest stain was directly on the front.   So that was chopped out, and some red and cream polka dots made this an entirely new top.   There was also a big stain on the sleeve, so I rolled them up and crazy stitched them in place.  Ready for some denim shorts, come spring!

Happy Happy Joy Joy...or, Pyrex Love

After hours cleaning and organizing the basement yesterday, I made a run to the thrift store to recycle some unused items.   As usual, there were tons of boxes and items piled around the donation carts.   As I was unloading the car I spotted a complete set of 4 vintage Pyrex mixing bowls in the Amish Butterprint pattern, plus another pint dish.  All 5 were in absolutely pristine condition.   This is the exact same pattern as the ones my mom used to have when I was a little kid, so I gave a bit of a squeal when I saw them.   I asked the guy sorting the boxes if I could have them, and he gave me an uninterested nod (clearly he had no idea what a treasure they are!).   Lucky day!

Same shirt, different year

It fits her much better now.   The hood was always a bit too voluminous, but she is not swimming in it like before.   Now in heavy rotation.

Pillow Envy

Today I made these pillows for my girlfriend's couch.   We tried them on my couch before they went to their new home.  Secretly I am hoping they don't quite match her decor, so maybe they will end up back here...

PS This was the first time I sewed with any of that taupe Kaffe Fassett shot cotton.  Delicious in person!

Shredded necklace fetish.

This came in the mail recently, courtesy of Etsy seller sbarao.  It is made from crocheted, hand-dyed fabric with little bronze beads on a coppery chain.   I love everything about it.   I feel ready to join Mad Max in it, far beyond the Thunderdome.   Please visit her shop, beautiful things!
